Dress Design for Shabby Apple dresses

I saw this contest and as I’ve started designing for our first fabric photo shoot, I decided, “What the hey!?” So here’s my entry to the Shabby Apple Dress Contest.

Boooonnnuusss (That is me singing it. Unfortunately you can’t get the full effect via blog.): I’m using fabrics from my new line CoquetteTM for Northcott. It hasn’t hit shops yet so this is a first peek at 3 of the fabrics in the line. This simple-straightforward dress is 50s retro meets modern girl. A little bit of June Cleaver (a flirty flowing skirt). A little bit contemporary (the chic, updated snug “on-the-neck” collar). A whole lot of feminine (an empire waistline and little puffed sleeves with piping)! It’s simple, sweet, and oh so preppy to be sure.

I can see myself racing around on errands or picking up the kids at school in this little sweet thing or just hanging around the house. Throw on a cardigan and take it to work! I’m showcasing 3 different color/fabric ideas here and I’d love to see which you like best. I have my favorite but it’s a secret! Even if these don’t make the contest, there’s a good chance you’ll see these come Coquette’sTM release. Enjoy!

  1. I vote for color scheme 2 – Chocolate Chic. This is my favorite “of the moment” color combination right now. I tend to gravitate toward solids in my wardrobe but the coordinating fabric is wonderful (and the shoes are a perfect compliment).

  2. I really love an allover pattern, so I was drawn to 1 and 3 right off the bat. On closer inspection, I would try on 2 and 3, because the horizontal striping would scare me.

    And then I’d probably buy 3. 🙂

  3. P.S. I was totally looking at Shabby Apple’s website yesterday, contemplating ordering. I’m so glad that you and Jen introduced me to them.

  4. Both my 25 year old daughter and I chose #1. It’s fun, young and retro all at the same time. And just think of all the shoe choices you’d have 🙂 Love it!

  5. Those are all really cute! I am so excited about the fabric. If I had to pick one, I would say #2. I like the more solid fabric for the main part of the dress.

  6. Totally would buy either #2 or #3 – if I was skinnier or not pregnant right now then I’d choose #1 (the horizontal stripe would make me look bigger! LOL) I probably would end up buying #2 because I tend to lean toward solid color stuff 🙂 but I LOVE the color and pattern of #3 – just not on me 🙂 hee hee!

  7. I am drawn to number 1 & 3. For myself, I think I would wear number 1 more often as an everyday pretty dress but number 3 would be beautiful for a dress to wear to something nice like a wedding.

  8. I love all three of them but if I were purchasing one for myself it would be number 3. I love number 1 but the horizontal stripes are a little intimidating. #3 for sure!

  9. It would be hard to pick a favorite..but I think I would go with number 1…they are all gorgeous!

  10. I think they are all cute, but probably #2. #1 and #3 are too loud for an all over print, for me anyway.

  11. I would probably pick either 2 or 3, love the allover print on 3! I really am drawn to the first dress, but maybe I’ve seen too much “what not to wear”? I stay away from horizontal stripes.

Fantastic dress design though! I love Shabby Apple – good luck!

  12. #2
cute and sassy, love the subtle print at waist and collar…

Great dress, love the combo’s you have put together so far, but seriously like # 2 best.

  13. I really liked all of them. I love the colors in #3, but I’m not brave so would probably most likely wear #2. I really like #1 as well. Sorry, that is not really a vote, I can’t decide. I literally have to see it on me to make a decision.

By the way, do they make dresses in long or tall? Dresses like this tend to be too short for me anyway 🙁

  14. i vote for #2, second for #1. i don’t like #3, tho i’m sure someone (you?) could pull it off – it’s just so very not me.. 🙂

  15. I like number 3 — love the color grouping — that was one of my favorite
    color combos this Summer!

  16. I really like #3 the best … love the print and the colors, and I think this print would hide more of my body flaws than the other two, even though they are great too!

  17. I LOVE #3. The others are great too but I’d go with 3. It seems to follow your paper style that I also love!
